The Salcombe Regatta has something for all ages: on the water, in the water, and on dry land. There are many events for children, including Spot the Bloomer, Children’s Sports and Parachuting Teddies. Those who enjoy athletic pursuits are catered for with sailing, rowing and raft races, and with the mini-triathlon.
Throughout the week, Whitestrand Car Park is occupied by stalls, emergency vehicles, or the boat show. Two particular highlights of the week are the Island Street Party on Sunday, and the fireworks on Thursday.
Dinghy Racing
There are five days of great sailing scheduled for everyone, with four days of fleet racing to determine the overall winners of the various fleets followed by the Pursuit Races Adult and Junior on the final Friday. To enter click here
All competitors are honorary members of Salcombe Yacht Club for the duration of the Regatta, and their families are welcome as their guests to use the Club where you will find a warm welcome extended by the bar staff with hot and cold drinks available all morning and lunch from 12pm.
The Town Regatta sailing programme emphasises the fun side of dinghy racing and there is no better example of this than the Pursuit Races on Friday. For those not familiar with the format, starting times are staggered to take account of the speed of different types of boat and the boat that is leading when the finishing canon is fired after 90 minutes is the winner. Plus, of course, there is the fancy dress competition to decide the best dressed crews of the day!
All in all, a great week of sailing with plenty of camaraderie on and off the water.
