About Us

Tucked away on the cliffs above Salcombe is this hidden paradise: a subtropical garden, bursting with colour, filled with exotic and rare plants and surprises around every corner. The views from the garden over the estuary and coast are truly breathtaking.

We’re excited about the reopening of Overbeck’s Garden on March 2nd , and there are several highlights to note:

  • Dogs on short leads are allowed at Overbeck’s Garden through the 2025 season, which will be welcome news for walkers and visitors alike (there are several coast and country trails you can take to/from Overbeck’s)
  • NEW indoor kiosk for hot drinks and refreshments, with limited seating indoors and lots outside
  • NEW car parking facility extends our capacity to 43 spaces including several wider bays and parking on the lane.
  • We have a NEW Head Gardener! Ian Trought joins us from RHS garden at Wisley and there will be garden tours with the garden team, taking place every week on Wednesdays from end March (booking essential)
  • NEW Rainy Day Rambles – there’s now an umbrella station at the gate – we invite visitors to come and experience subtropical rainforest planting in the rain! Overbeck’s Garden comes alive on wet days. Rainy day rambles at Overbeck’s Garden | National Trust
  • Every Wednesday from end March to end October, Garden Tours with the garden team at 2pm (pre book essential)
  • Every Sunday and Thursday during the open season visitors can hear the giant Polyphon music box played in the conservatory at 12pm and 2pm

National Trust members go free and non-members are welcome (pay on the gate). Opening days are Sunday through to Thursday (we are closed on Fridays and Saturdays)
