Founded over 130 years ago, SYC is steeped in maritime tradition. The Club is located within Cliff House, a historic building offering one of the finest panoramic views in Salcombe. Perched above the estuary, the Clubhouse provides an unrivalled vantage point for watching races as they cross the start and finish line.
With over 900 members, SYC is one of the most active sailing clubs in the South West. Our racing calendar runs for 10 months of the year, beginning with the Commissioning Race in March and concluding with the festive New Year’s Day race.
Our Cruising Section also organises popular summer rallies to ports along the South West coast & further afield.
The Club hosts a full and varied sailing programme, including:
– Six regular Dinghy Racing Series
– Ten Open Meetings
– The Salcombe Gin SYC Regatta
– The Salcombe Town Regatta
The highlight of the season is Merlin Rocket Week, widely regarded as the jewel in the Club’s crown. This prestigious event draws over 100 crews from across the UK and places Salcombe firmly on the national dinghy sailing map each July.
In addition to an exceptional sailing calendar, SYC offers a welcoming and sociable atmosphere, along with a diverse events programme featuring live music, themed suppers, quiz nights, and the annual Christmas Fair. There are also active social and watersport groups including:

– Pilates & Yoga
– Kayaking, SUPs, and more
Membership includes access to excellent Club facilities, including the bar, large terrace, dining room, and shower | changing rooms.
Our Clubhouse Bar serves quality ales, lagers, and a thoughtfully curated wine list. Freshly prepared meals by our franchise Chef can be enjoyed in the Bar, in the downstairs Dining Room, on the Terrace, or in the upstairs Chart Room and Balcony—each offering breathtaking views of the harbour.
Members benefit from a 10% discount on all SYC food, drinks, and social events, as well as on official SYC regalia. Many local retailers (Our Partners) also offer exclusive member discounts, including Helly Hansen, Musto, Henri Lloyd, Crew, and Salcombe Gin.
