This group exhibition brings together four exceptional artists, each bringing a fresh and distinctive perspective on life by the water:
Summer Jane
A dynamic new addition to the gallery, Summer Jane’s acrylic paintings capture the thrill of sailing and surfing with expressive, wind-driven strokes. Often using palette knives and even cake spatulas, she creates movement-rich pieces on canvas and recycled sailcloth – giving new life to materials that once travelled the waves. Summer’s work has gained recognition at events like Cowes Week and Dartmouth Royal Regatta, and she counts Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal among her collectors.
Sophie Gregson
A long-time gallery favourite, Sophie Gregson works with kiln-formed glass to create beautifully textured pieces inspired by wildlife and the natural world. Her work combines colour, light, and delicate detail, bringing the feeling of coastal calm into any space. Based in South Devon, Sophie draws on her global travels and deep-rooted connection to the sea to inform her unique glass art.
Simon Wright
Known for his loose, impressionistic style, Simon Wright captures the essence of harbours, boats and coastal towns with a painterly confidence and expressive spontaneity. His work plays with tone and structure, creating an almost musical rhythm across the canvas. A best-selling artist at Mayne Gallery, Simon’s paintings are full of energy and atmosphere.
Maria Cortes
Originally from Valencia, Maria Cortes brings Mediterranean light and bold colour to her textured oil paintings. Working primarily with a palette knife, her powerful sailing scenes and seascapes are packed with movement, emotion, and confidence. Her work is collected internationally and continues to evolve into a distinctive and modern celebration of the sea.
